The wings are clear and membranous, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. Apiocera melanura is a species of fly in the family Apioceridae, first described by M.A. Cazier in 1941.[2] The species was formally described in Cazier's generic review of the family Apioceratidae, which included a revision of North American species.[2]
