Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens, Aphria longirostris exhibits a distinct, elongated proboscis, which is characteristic of the genus. The abdomen features a prominent, vibrant orange-brown coloration on the intermediate segments, contrasting with the darker, blackish coloration at the base and apex. The body is covered in numerous, long, dark, bristle-like hairs (setae), particularly noticeable on the thorax and the posterior portion of the abdomen.[1]
Description
Aphria longirostris is a species of fly in the family Tachinidae. It was originally described by the entomologist Johann Wilhelm Meigen in 1824 as Tachina longirostris.[2]
