Visual Description
Aphestia annulipes is a member of the family Asilidae (robber flies). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic robust, elongated body form typical of many laphriine robber flies.[1] The specimens display a dark, often metallic or blackish coloration on the thorax and abdomen, and possess distinct, robust legs.[1]
General Information
Aphestia annulipes (Macquart, 1838) is a recognized species within the genus Aphestia Schiner, 1866, which belongs to the subfamily Laphriinae.[2] A recent taxonomic review of the genus has confirmed its status as a valid species, bringing the total number of recognized species in Aphestia to 11.[2]
