Aphanotrigonum huttoni was originally described by J.R. Malloch in 1931 under the name Oscinosoma huttoni.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Aphanotrigonum.[2] The species is sometimes referred to by the vernacular name "Hutton's flower fly".[2]
