Visual Description
Aphanotrigonum bicolor is a small fly, with a body length of approximately 2 mm. The head is primarily yellow, featuring a black vertical triangle that is as long as it is wide. The mesonotum is marked with black stripes. The antennae are yellow, with a rounded postpedicel and a yellow arista, while the occiput and postgena are black. The legs and abdomen are generally brownish-yellow, with yellow coloration present on the shoulders, parts of the pleura, and the apex of the scutellum. In males, the epandrium is small, the cerci do not taper, and the surstyli are not narrow.[2]
Ecology and Distribution
The larvae of A. bicolor are saprophagous, developing within the decomposing stems and spikelets of grasses (Poaceae).[2] The species exhibits a Turano-European distribution.[2]
