Visual Description
Aphanotrigonum species are small flies, typically around 2 mm in length.[2] Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a generally compact body form characteristic of the family Chloropidae.[1] The head is often predominantly yellow, featuring a distinct, dark vertical triangle on the frons that is approximately as long as it is wide.[2] The mesonotum typically exhibits dark longitudinal stripes.[2]
Ecology and Distribution
Aphanotrigonum is a genus of flies within the family Chloropidae.[3] Larvae of known species, such as A. bicolor, are saprophagous, developing within the decomposing stems and spikelets of grasses (Poaceae).[2] The genus has a broad distribution, with some species exhibiting a Turano-European range.[2]
