Overview
Aphamartania is a genus of robber flies (family Asilidae). As of 1971, the genus included six recognized species: A. breviventris (Macquart), A. digna Pritchard, A. frauenfeldi Schiner, A. maculipennis (Macquart), A. marga Pritchard, and A. pritchardi Carrera. The taxonomic status of A. breviventris and A. maculipennis has been considered doubtful, as they are known only from their original type specimens.[2]
Morphology
Morphological descriptions for the genus are often based on specific species. For example, Aphamartania knutsoni, described in 1971, is characterized by an entirely yellow-ferruginous head, thorax, and abdomen. The mesonotum of this species features three longitudinal black spots, with the median spot divided by a ferruginous line. The wings are yellow, appearing darker in the antero-basal half, and the legs are dark yellow with reddish bristles.[2]
