Based on examination of preserved museum specimens, Apatolestes willistoni exhibits the characteristic body plan of a horse fly (family Tabanidae). The specimens show a robust, somewhat elongated body with prominent, compound eyes typical of the family. The wings are clear and membranous, extending beyond the abdomen. The thorax and abdomen display a brownish coloration with fine, dense pubescence. The legs are relatively long and slender, consistent with the general morphology of the genus Apatolestes.[1]
