Based on observations of preserved specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Apalocnemis ochracea exhibits the characteristic form of a small dipteran.[1] The specimens typically display a slender body structure with elongated legs and wings that extend beyond the abdomen. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with many preserved insect specimens. Due to the nature of the preserved museum specimens in the dataset, finer morphological details such as specific setal patterns or delicate wing venation are difficult to resolve with high precision.[1]
Apalocnemis ochracea (Bigot, 1888) is a species of fly within the family Brachystomatidae.[2] It was originally described by Bigot as Heleodromia ochracea.[3]
The species has been recorded in Chile, specifically in the Valdivia Province (Región de Los Ríos) and the Cabo de Hornos area of the Antártica Chilena Province (Región de Magallanes).[3] Syntypes of the species are held in the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (MNHN).[3]
