Visual Description
Apallates particeps is a small fly characteristic of the family Chloropidae. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a compact body form typical of the family.[1] The specimens exhibit a dark, sclerotized thorax and abdomen. The head features relatively large, prominent compound eyes that occupy a significant portion of the lateral head surface. The wings are clear and membranous, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen.[1]
Classification and History
Apallates particeps was originally described by Becker in 1912 as Oscinella particeps.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Apallates.[2]
