Visual Description
The species Apallates montanus is a member of the family Chloropidae, commonly known as frit flies or eye gnats. As with other members of this family, individuals are generally small, often with a shiny or metallic appearance. Due to the limitations of available imagery, specific morphological details such as wing venation or thoracic patterns cannot be definitively resolved.[1]
Taxonomy and History
Apallates montanus was originally described by Curtis W. Sabrosky in 1941 under the name Hippelates montanus.[2] The species is currently accepted as Apallates montanus (Sabrosky, 1941).[2]
