Visual Description
Apallates convexus is a small fly characteristic of the family Chloropidae. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a compact, robust body form typical of many grass flies. The specimens exhibit a dark, sclerotized thorax and abdomen. The head is relatively large in proportion to the body, with prominent compound eyes. The wings are clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Apallates convexus was described by Hermann Loew in 1866.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Apallates.[2] Records indicate that this species interacts with various plant species, including Euthamia caroliniana and Polygonella robusta.[3]
