Visual Description
Apachekolos tenuipes, commonly known as the thin-legged pixie, is a species of robber fly characterized by its slender, elongated body form, which is typical of the subfamily Leptogastrinae. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a notably thin, thread-like abdomen and long, delicate legs, which are consistent with its common name.[1] The thorax is relatively robust compared to the abdomen, and the wings are typically clear and held along the body when at rest.[1]
Classification and History
The species was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1862 as Leptogaster tenuipes.[2] It is currently accepted as a valid species within the genus Apachekolos.[2]
