Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Apachekolos exhibit typical robber fly morphology.[1] They possess a slender, elongated body form and long, thin legs, which are characteristic of the genus. The head features prominent, large compound eyes typical of predatory Diptera. The thorax and abdomen often show distinct coloration patterns, with some species displaying subtle banding or setal arrangements that contribute to their overall appearance.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Research conducted in a tropical deciduous forest in central Mexico identified Apachekolos as a component of the local robber fly community.[2] Studies have noted the presence of multiple Apachekolos species throughout the year, indicating that some members of the genus are active across different seasonal periods, including cold, dry, and rainy seasons.[2]
