Based on observations of preserved specimens, Anzomyia anomala exhibits characteristic features of the family Tabanidae. The specimens display a robust body form typical of horse flies. Key visible traits include a distinct, relatively large head with prominent compound eyes. The thorax and abdomen show a brownish coloration, with the abdomen appearing somewhat elongated and segmented. The wings are well-developed and exhibit venation patterns consistent with the family.[1]
Anzomyia anomala was originally described by I.M. Mackerras in 1960 under the name Scaptia anomala.[2] The species is currently accepted as Anzomyia anomala (Mackerras, 1960).[2]
