Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Antocha are delicate, slender-bodied flies typical of the family Limoniidae.[1] They possess exceptionally long, thin legs and elongated wings that often extend well beyond the tip of the abdomen.[1] The wings are generally clear or slightly iridescent, with a venation pattern characteristic of the genus.[1]
Distribution and Taxonomy
Antocha is a genus of crane flies within the family Limoniidae.[2] Recent taxonomic research has expanded the known range of the subgenus Antocha (subgenus Antocha) to include Africa, with the discovery of Antocha (Antocha) staryi in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco.[3] While some species like A. (A.) staryi have restricted ranges, others such as A. (A.) vitripennis are widespread and exhibit significant intraspecific variability in their male genital structures.[3]
