Visual Description
Members of the genus Antiphrisson are robber flies (family Asilidae) that exhibit typical asilid morphology, characterized by a robust, elongated body form and prominent, forward-facing eyes. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal specimens with a slender, often dark-colored abdomen and well-developed, functional wings.[1] The thorax is typically robust, supporting strong flight muscles, and the legs are equipped with bristles, which are characteristic of the predatory nature of these insects.[1]
Distribution and Research
Recent entomological surveys have expanded the known distribution of this genus. For instance, Antiphrisson mongolicus Lehr and Antiphrisson niger Lehr have been recorded from the Altai Republic in Russia, based on recent expedition and museum material.[2]
