Visual Description
Members of the genus Anticheta are small to medium-sized flies, typical of the family Sciomyzidae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, they exhibit a slender body form with relatively long, thin legs.[1] The wings are often patterned or clear, and the head features prominent antennae.[1]
General Information
Anticheta is a genus of flies in the family Sciomyzidae, first described by Haliday in 1838.[2][3] Recent taxonomic work includes the description of new species, such as Anticheta patzcuaroensis, which was described from specimens collected at Lake Pátzcuaro, Mexico.[4]
