Visual Description
Anthrax proconcisus is a species of bee fly (family Bombyliidae). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic robust, somewhat flattened, and hairy body form typical of many bombyliids.[1] The wings often display distinct, dark, mottled or patterned areas, which are common diagnostic features within the genus Anthrax. The body is covered in dense setae, providing a fuzzy appearance, and the coloration typically includes shades of brown, black, and sometimes lighter, yellowish or whitish patches.[1]
Classification and History
Anthrax proconcisus was originally described by G.H. Hardy in 1942 as Villa proconcisus.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anthrax.[2]
