Visual Description
Anthrax pauper is a species of bee fly within the family Bombyliidae. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic features of the genus Anthrax. The body exhibits a robust, somewhat flattened form typical of many bombyliids. The wings are notably patterned with dark, opaque patches, particularly in the basal and costal regions, which is a diagnostic trait for many species in this genus. The thorax and abdomen are covered in dense, fine setae (hairs), which can vary in color, often appearing brownish or grayish, providing a camouflaged appearance.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Anthrax pauper was described by the entomologist Hermann Loew in 1869.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anthrax.[2]
