Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Anthrax opacus exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Bombyliidae, often referred to as bee flies.[1] The specimens display a robust, somewhat hairy appearance typical of the genus Anthrax. The wings often show distinct patterning, and the body coloration is generally consistent with other members of the tribe Anthracini.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Anthrax opacus was described by Yeates and Lambkin in 1998.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anthrax. The original description was published as part of a review of the tribe Anthracini in Australia.[2]
