Visual Description
Anthrax oedipus is a species of bee fly (family Bombyliidae). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit a robust, hairy body typical of the genus. The wings are characterized by distinct, dark, mottled or patterned pigmentation, particularly in the basal and costal regions. The body coloration is generally dark, often with patches of lighter, yellowish or whitish setae, particularly on the thorax and abdomen.[1]

Anthrax oedipus was described by the entomologist Johan Christian Fabricius in 1805.[2]
