Anthrax luctuosus is a species of bee fly (family Bombyliidae). Members of the genus Anthrax are generally recognized as ectoparasitoids of bee and wasp larvae and pupae.[2]
In studies of nesting patterns of the solitary bee Melitoma segmentaria in southern Brazil, Anthrax luctuosus has been observed exhibiting guarding behavior at the nest entrances of the bees. Interestingly, the host bees do not appear to recognize the fly as a threat.[2]
