Visual Description
Based on observations of preserved specimens, Anthrax fur exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Bombyliidae, often referred to as bee flies. The body is robust and covered in dense, hair-like setae. The wings are typically patterned, often featuring dark, mottled, or banded markings across the membrane, which is a common trait within the genus Anthrax. The head is relatively small with large, prominent compound eyes.[1]
General Information
Anthrax fur is a species of bee fly in the family Bombyliidae. It was originally described by the entomologist C.R. Osten Sacken in 1877 under the name Argyramoeba fur.[2]
