Visual Description
Anthrax crenatus is a species of bee fly within the family Bombyliidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit a robust, hairy body typical of many bombyliids. The wings are characterized by distinct, dark, mottled or patterned pigmentation, which is a common feature in the genus Anthrax. The body coloration generally includes dark tones, often with patches of lighter, yellowish or whitish setae (hairs) that provide a contrasting appearance. The overall morphology is consistent with the general habitus of the tribe Anthracini.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Anthrax crenatus was described by Yeates and Lambkin in 1998. It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anthrax. The species was formally published as part of a review of the tribe Anthracini in Australia.[2]
