Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens, Anthrax cordillerensis exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Bombyliidae, often referred to as bee flies. The specimens display a robust, somewhat hirsute thorax and abdomen, typical of the genus Anthrax. The wings are generally hyaline or possess distinct dark patterning, a common feature within this genus. The legs are slender and elongated, consistent with the general morphology of the group.[1]
History and Classification
Anthrax cordillerensis was described by N.L. Marston in 1970 as part of his revision of the New World species of the genus Anthrax (excluding the Anthrax albofasciatus group).[2]
