Visual Description
Anthomyiopsis nigrisquamata is a small fly characteristic of the family Tachinidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a dark-bodied insect with a robust thorax and abdomen.[1] The wings are translucent with a distinct iridescent sheen, reflecting metallic blue and green hues under light.[1] The eyes are prominent and reddish-brown.[1]
Ecology and Biology
Anthomyiopsis nigrisquamata is a parasitoid fly.[2] It has been documented as a parasitoid of the leaf beetle Phratora vitellinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).[2]
History and Research
The species was described by the Swedish entomologist Johan Wilhelm Zetterstedt in 1838.[3] Research into the molecular characteristics of this species has included studies on the mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, although unique species-specific markers for A. nigrisquamata were not identified in certain in silico analyses.[4]
