Based on examination of preserved specimens, Anthomyia recurrens exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Anthomyiidae.[1] The specimens display a typical muscoid fly morphology, with a distinct head, thorax, and abdomen. The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine setae, and the wings are held in a position characteristic of the order Diptera. Due to the nature of the preserved museum specimens, finer morphological details such as specific wing venation patterns or subtle coloration are not clearly resolved in the available imagery.[1]
Anthomyia recurrens was originally described by J. R. Malloch in 1934 under the name Hylemyia recurrens.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anthomyia.[2]
