Visual Description
Anthomyia pluvialis is a small fly characterized by a distinct pattern of black and grey markings on its thorax and abdomen. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show that the thorax typically features prominent black longitudinal stripes or patches against a lighter, greyish background.[1] The abdomen also displays a series of black spots or bands, which are diagnostic for the genus. The wings are generally clear, and the overall body form is typical of the family Anthomyiidae.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Anthomyia pluvialis has been documented visiting flowers of various plants, including Achillea and Helichrysum, and interacting with Hedera helix.[2] It also serves as a host for the monoxenous trypanosomatid Crithidia brevicula, a widespread flagellate in Northern Eurasia.[3]
