Visual Description
Anthomyia monilis is a species of fly within the family Anthomyiidae. Unlike many other members of the genus Anthomyia, which are typically recognized by a distinct black and white pattern on the thorax and abdomen, A. monilis lacks this characteristic coloration.[2] Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show a fly with a generally dark, robust body form, typical of many muscoid flies, with visible wing venation and compound eyes.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Anthomyia monilis is widespread across Europe.[2] It has been documented in various habitats, including heathlands in mainland Portugal, where it was recently recorded for the first time.[2] The species has been observed visiting flowers, such as Oreoselinum majus, and is considered to play a role in pollination.[3]
