Visual Description
Anthomyia imbrida is a fly characterized by the distinct, patterned appearance typical of the genus Anthomyia. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the thorax often features prominent, dark, transverse bands or patches against a lighter, greyish or silvery background. The abdomen is typically marked with dark, paired spots or transverse bands on each tergite. The wings are generally clear, and the body is covered in fine, dark setae.[1]
Distribution and Ecology
Anthomyia imbrida was described by Camillo Rondani in 1866.[2] It is a widely distributed species across the Palaearctic region, with a range extending from Europe and North Africa, through the Middle East, to China.[3]
In recent surveys, such as those conducted in mainland Portugal between 2009 and 2021, the species has been recorded in various districts, including Guarda, Bragança, and Santarém. Specimens in these studies were collected using sweep-netting techniques.[3]
