Visual Description
Anthomyia illocata is a small fly characterized by a distinct black and white or greyish-white patterned thorax and abdomen, consistent with the general appearance of the genus Anthomyia. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show that the species typically exhibits a robust, bristly body structure common to many anthomyiid flies.[1]
Ecology and Biology
Anthomyia illocata has been documented in studies of dipterous flies associated with avian habitats. Specifically, it has been observed to breed in the feces of the Japanese cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo hanedae). In research conducted in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, this species was found to constitute approximately 8% of the total dipterous flies reared from cormorant dung samples collected beneath nesting sites.[2]
