Overview
Anthalia is a genus of flies in the family Hybotidae, first described by Johan Wilhelm Zetterstedt in 1838.[2] It is classified within the subfamily Ocydromiinae.[3]
Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Anthalia are small, slender flies typical of the family Hybotidae.[1] They exhibit a compact body form with relatively long, thin legs and wings that are often held flat over the abdomen when at rest.[1] The coloration is generally dark, ranging from black to dark brown, with some species showing subtle metallic reflections on the thorax.[1]
