Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Anoplodonta exhibit characteristic features of the family Stratiomyidae.[1] The flies typically possess a robust, somewhat flattened body form. Visible structures include a distinctively shaped head with prominent compound eyes and antennae, and wings that are often held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The coloration observed in these specimens includes dark, often blackish tones, consistent with the specific epithet nigrirostris often associated with this genus.[2]
Biology and Ecology
Anoplodonta is a genus within the family Stratiomyidae, commonly known as soldier flies.[2] The genus was described by James in 1936.[2] Interactions have been documented between Anoplodonta nigrirostris and various plant species, such as Cirsium canescens.[3]
