Visual Description
Anopheles walkeri, commonly known as Walker's Anopheles, is a mosquito species characterized by typical culicid morphology. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show the adult mosquito possessing slender, elongated legs and a pair of delicate, veined wings.[1] The body exhibits the characteristic resting posture of the genus Anopheles, where the abdomen is typically angled away from the surface upon which the insect is resting.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Anopheles walkeri was described by Frederick Vincent Theobald in 1901.[2] Research conducted in Eastern Ontario, Canada, has provided insights into its environmental associations. The presence and abundance of this species are negatively associated with both urban and agricultural landscapes.[3] Conversely, its abundance shows a positive correlation with precipitation levels averaged over the 30 and 90 days preceding capture.[3]
