Based on observations of preserved specimens, Anopheles sergentii exhibits the characteristic slender body form typical of the genus Anopheles. The specimens display long, thin legs and elongated, narrow wings that are held close to the body. The thorax and abdomen show a brownish coloration, with fine, hair-like structures (setae) visible on the surface of the thorax.[1]
Anopheles sergentii is recognized as a dominant vector species (DVS) of human malaria in parts of Europe and the Middle East.[2] Its distribution and bionomic characteristics have been extensively documented to assist in malaria control programs and to evaluate the potential risk of disease re-emergence in these regions.[2] Predictive mapping, utilizing the Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) method, has been employed to model the species' distribution by integrating occurrence data with environmental and climatic variables.[2]
