Anopheles jamesii is a mosquito characterized by distinct patterning on its wings and legs. As observed in historical illustrations, the wings exhibit a complex, mottled pattern of dark and light scales. The legs are notably long and slender, featuring alternating bands of dark and light coloration, which is a common trait in many anopheline species. The antennae are plumose, particularly in males, and the palps show distinct banding patterns.[1]
Anopheles jamesii has been studied in the context of malaria vector control in Sri Lanka. Research conducted in the Anuradhapura district has evaluated the susceptibility of this species to various insecticides. Populations of Anopheles jamesii in this region have demonstrated high levels of resistance to DDT.[2]
