This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Anopheles culicifacies is a mosquito species characterized by typical culicid morphology. Observations of preserved specimens reveal slender, elongated bodies with long, thin legs and narrow wings. The thorax and abdomen exhibit a segmented structure, and the head features prominent compound eyes and long, slender antennae.[1]
Anopheles culicifacies is recognized as an important insect vector of human pathogens.[2] Research into the digestive system of this species has shown that its salivary glands harbor a more diverse microbial community than its gut. A core microbiota, including genera such as Enhydrobacter, Agromonas, Serratia, Ralsonia, Lactobacillus, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus, Rubrobacter, Anaerococcus, Methylobacterium, Turicibacter, and Elizabethkingia, is present in both the salivary glands and the gut. The higher diversity in the salivary glands is hypothesized to be related to feeding-associated processes like food acquisition and digestion.[3]
