Visual Description
Anopheles beklemishevi is a mosquito species. Based on observations of museum specimens, the adult form exhibits the characteristic slender body shape and long, delicate legs typical of the genus Anopheles. The wings are narrow and elongated, with characteristic venation patterns. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with other members of the Maculipennis group.[1]
Biology and Distribution
Anopheles beklemishevi is a member of the Maculipennis group of malaria mosquitoes. It is notable for having the most northern distribution among the members of this group.[2]
A high-quality standard cytogenetic photomap for the polytene chromosomes of An. beklemishevi has been developed using ovarian nurse cells, providing a tool for genomics and population genetics studies at the adult stage.[2] Population analysis has revealed four polymorphic inversions, which are considered related to the species' adaptation.[2]
