Visual Description
Anopheles mosquitoes are characterized by a slender body form typical of the family Culicidae. Observations from dataset imagery reveal that adult Anopheles often rest with their abdomen angled upwards, creating a distinct, straight-line profile from the head to the tip of the abdomen, which contrasts with the hunched posture of many other mosquito genera.[1] The wings are often marked with distinct patterns of dark and pale scales, a feature visible in several species within the genus.[1]

Anopheles is a genus of mosquito first described by Johann Wilhelm Meigen in 1818.[2] It is widely recognized for its medical importance, as it includes the primary vectors responsible for the transmission of human malaria.[3] The genus is highly diverse, with numerous species complexes, such as the Anopheles gambiae complex, which has been subject to extensive taxonomic study, including the formal description of species like Anopheles coluzzii and Anopheles amharicus.[4]
