Visual Description
Anommonia spinipleura is a small fly characteristic of the family Sphaeroceridae. Based on examination of museum specimens, the species exhibits a dark, sclerotized body typical of many sphaerocerids. Key observable features include a robust thorax with distinct setation and relatively short, stout legs. The wings are well-developed with characteristic venation patterns consistent with the family, though often appearing somewhat translucent in preserved specimens. The head is relatively large in proportion to the body, with prominent compound eyes.[1]
Classification and History
Anommonia spinipleura was originally described by Richards in 1968 under the name Leptocera spinipleura.[2] It is currently an accepted species within the genus Anommonia.[2]
