Visual Description
Anomalomyia minor is a small fly characteristic of the family Mycetophilidae. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a slender, elongated body form typical of fungus gnats. Key visible traits include long, delicate legs and wings that are held folded over the abdomen when at rest. The body exhibits a brownish to yellowish coloration, with distinct, relatively large compound eyes that occupy a significant portion of the head. The wings appear clear or slightly smoky with visible venation patterns characteristic of the genus.[1]
Classification and History
Anomalomyia minor was originally described by P. Marshall in 1896 as Anomala minor in his work on New Zealand Diptera.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anomalomyia.[2]
