Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Anisia are flies characterized by typical tachinid morphology.[1] They exhibit a robust body form with prominent bristles, a feature common to the family Tachinidae. The coloration often includes shades of brown, grey, or black, with patterns on the thorax and abdomen that are diagnostic for species identification. The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the order Diptera.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Anisia is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae, first described by the Dutch entomologist Frederik Maurits van der Wulp in 1890.[2][3] Taxonomic revisions have clarified the placement of various species within the genus. For instance, Anisia approximata van der Wulp, 1890, has been reclassified as a species of the genus Houghia Coquillett.[4]
