Visual Description
Members of the genus Angioneura are small flies typical of the family Calliphoridae. Based on observations of museum specimens, they exhibit a robust, compact body form characteristic of many calyptrate flies. Key visible traits include a well-developed thoracic structure with distinct setation, and wings that are typically clear or slightly smoky, featuring venation patterns consistent with the family. The abdomen is often rounded or oval, sometimes showing metallic or dark pigmentation depending on the species.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
The genus Angioneura is recognized within the family Calliphoridae, although some historical literature has placed it within the Rhinophoridae.[2] Species such as Angioneura acerba and Angioneura fimbriata have been documented in European habitats, specifically in sedge meadow environments (Caricetum rostratae), such as those found in the Świętokrzyski Region of Poland.[2] These species are considered part of the European zoogeographical element.[2]
