Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens, Anevrina variabilis is a relatively large phorid fly.[1] As with other members of the family Phoridae, it exhibits the characteristic humpbacked appearance, with a robust thorax and a relatively small head.[2]
Ecology and Distribution
Anevrina variabilis is a native phorid fly species.[2] It has been documented as a scavenger within rodent burrows.[2] In studies of urban biodiversity, such as those conducted in Los Angeles, California, it has been categorized as an "urban avoider" or "rural" taxon, showing a preference for less urbanized environments and limited presence in highly developed urban core areas.[2]
