Visual Description
Anevrina thoracica is a species of scuttle fly belonging to the family Phoridae. Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic humpbacked appearance common to many phorids. The body is generally dark in coloration, with a robust thorax and a relatively small head. The wings are well-developed, with distinct venation patterns typical of the genus.[1]
Phylogeny and Ecology
Phylogenetic studies using mitochondrial 12S and 16S rRNA gene sequences have placed Anevrina thoracica within a monophyletic Phorinae clade. Within this subfamily, Anevrina is closely related to the genera Conicera and Spiniphora, a finding supported by both molecular and morphological evidence.[2]
Ecological interactions recorded for Anevrina thoracica include visits to flowers, specifically those of plants in the family Apiaceae, as well as associations with Quercus species.[3]
