Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Anepsiomyia exhibit typical dolichopodid morphology, characterized by slender bodies and long, thin legs.[1] The wings are generally clear and held in a characteristic position relative to the body.[1]
Morphology and Classification
The genus Anepsiomyia Bezzi, 1902 is recognized within the family Dolichopodidae.[2] Research into the antennal morphology of Dolichopodidae has identified Anepsiomyia as an outlier regarding the morphometric ratio of the length of the postpedicel to its height.[3] Because of this extreme variation, this specific ratio is considered an unreliable diagnostic characteristic for the subfamily Sympycninae, to which the genus belongs.[3]
