Museum specimens labeled as Ancorina geodides (GBIF/Queensland Museum) are preserved sponge samples. In the available specimen images, the material appears as a solid, irregular sponge body (in the museum photographs), consistent with a typical demospongian preserved morphology. Color appears muted by preservation and storage; fine surface details are not reliably discernible from the available specimen thumbnails.
GBIF lists Ancorina geodides as an accepted species (Carter, 1886). GBIF also records the basionym as Stelletta geodides Carter, 1886.
A study of Ancorina sp. (Ancorinidae) tested crude sponge extracts for effects on the human breast cancer T47D cell line. All tested extract types produced cytotoxicity and increased apoptotic cell fractions relative to untreated controls, and the methanol extract showed comparatively greater caspase-3–associated apoptosis in that in vitro assay. The study discusses Ancorina sp. rather than explicitly naming A. geodides, so these findings are supported at the genus level rather than confirmed as species-specific to A. geodides.
