This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Ancala latipes (originally described as Tabanus latipes Macquart, 1838) is a species of horse fly within the family Tabanidae.[2]
In a nationwide entomological survey conducted in Cameroon between 2015 and 2017, a female specimen of A. latipes was collected using a Nzi trap. The specimen was found in the marshy land of an abattoir in Mouanko, situated within the rainforest of the Douala-Edea Zone. This finding represented a new record for the country, contributing to an updated checklist of 92 tabanid species in Cameroon.[3]
Visual inspection of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicates that Ancala latipes exhibits characteristic features of the family Tabanidae.[1] Due to the limitations of the available digital imagery, fine morphological details such as specific wing venation patterns or antennal structure cannot be definitively resolved.
