Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Ancala exhibit characteristic features of the family Tabanidae.[1] The flies typically possess a robust body form with prominent, compound eyes that are often iridescent or patterned. The wings are generally clear or may show distinct dark banding patterns, which are useful for identification. The thorax and abdomen often display a mix of dark and lighter coloration, sometimes with fine hair-like structures (setae) covering the body surface.[1]
Distribution and Ecology
Ancala is a genus within the family Tabanidae.[2] In a baseline survey of Tabanidae in East Africa, Ancala specimens were recorded in Uganda (specifically the Wakiso District), though they were not identified in sampled sites in Kenya or Tanzania during the same study.[3]
